The key players behind the proposed revitalisation of the Coogee Bay Hotel site have welcomed the appointment of the State Government Architect to review and advise on the urban design merits of the proposal prior to the Village Coogee project being declared a Major Development Declaration.

The approach, which was requested by the Oakstand Property Group which is developing the site in conjunction with C.inc Hospitality, (owner of the Coogee Bay Hotel) is believed to be the first time the Department of Planning has sought to assess the design merits prior to declaration.

This approach ensures an objective assessment on the acceptability of the design scheme at the outset rather than in the final stages of the application while also providing a review of the design concepts presented to date.

On 17 May, a small group of people from local businesses and organisations have been invited to attend a briefing by C-Inc Hospitality, the owner of the Hotel, and Oakstand Property Group on the proposed development. This is the start of a number of briefings and meetings that will be held over the coming months.

The Department of Planning is still assessing the submission. Further information will be released and additional meetings will be held with community groups, Randwick Council elected members and others over the coming months. A number of community information days are also being planned at the Hotel where people can drop by to view plans, ask questions and provide feedback. Details will be published on this website and in the local media.

This website outlines the two alternative concepts for the development of the Coogee Bay Hotel that have been developed in response to concerns raised by Randwick Council, the Department of Planning and the community.

While the two new concepts no longer incorporate a tower, they mirror the intent of our original concept - to transform the pub space into a more family friendly space and facilitate a precinct which allows residents to live, work and shop locally.

Both concepts have been developed with the views of the community in mind - namely that any redevelopment of the Coogee Bay Hotel should take on more of a community flavour and address alcohol related violence and anti-social behaviour.

The Department of Planning is still considering the application. As we move forward from the concept stage to the project stage, we will include more comprehensive and detailed information. There will also be a formal consultation as part of the Part 3A process.

In addition to this website, we will also be holding a number of information sessions where people can come along and ask questions and provide feedback. Details of the sessions will be published on this site and in the local media.

The Village Coogee website has been launched to provide information about the development of the Coogee Bay Hotel.

There is considerable interest in this proposed development and we are keen to let the local community and other interested parties know what is being proposed and to hear people's views. The Department of Planning is considering a submission for a major project approval for the site. This website will be updated as the Department considers the submission and this will include a copy of the submission together with other background documents.
